Ada Colau

Ada Colau (Barcelona, 1974) studied Philosophy at the University of Barcelona and works at the Observatory of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (DESC).
Adrià Alemany (Barcelona, 1979) has a degree in Economics from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra. Both of them have had long careers as researchers and activists for the right to a home. T
hey met at V de Vivienda, one of the first collectives – started in 2006 – to take up the cause of dignified housing. Both are leaders of Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH), a citizen’s movement created in February 2009 that has stopped hundreds of evictions. They are also co-authors of the book Vidas hipotecadas (Mortgaged Lifes, 2012) and different publications and audio-visual materials, such as La ley del ladrillo (The Law of Brick, 2007) and El ADN de la burbuja inmobiliaria (The DNA of the Property Bubble, 2009). They live in Barcelona.
