Being in love with a woman he just wants to forget doesn’t sit well with the young, impetuous Highlander Zac Philips.
Some time ago, Zac set his eyes on Sandra, a young woman with chestnut hair and eyes and a captivating smile. But when Sandra’s father died, her maternal grandparents forced her and her mother to leave their home in the Highlands and return to Carlisle, even though neither of them was ever going to be happy there, especially when Sandra’s grandparents start trying to pressure her into marriage.
Zac set out for Carlisle to rescue his beloved, but when he got there, he found Sandra laughing with a bunch of Englishmen. Confused and heartbroken, he returned to the Highlands, determined to forget her. To her grandparents’ dismay, Sandra flatly rejects all of her supposed suitors, but is soon racked with guilt over the death of her grandmother.
