It's one of the hottest summers remembered in the Murcian orchard. A grandmother and her eleven-year-old grandson traverse the endless fields of lemon trees and paleras eaten by cochineal. It is there where she wants to show him something that no one else has seen: in an old farmworkers' hut, Pascuala has her own son kidnapped.
When his father disappears, Rubén moves in with his grandmother, whom he barely knows. Until then, he has been raised by his mother, with his gypsy family; and it's because Rubén has two halves, two bloodlines.
It is in those endless days of heat, in Alhama de Murcia, a town burned by the sun and surrounded by immigrants who harvest the crops, where the grandson discovers everything he never knew about his father while leaving behind the last days of his childhood.
Only then will Rubén understand how far a mother, a grandmother, is willing to go to take care of her family.
